Lot 28: FLOWN Thermal Shuttle Blanket
A remarkable fully intact 31" x 45" flown shuttle thermal multi-layer insulation blanket with seamed edges and numerous button fasteners. Rarely is such a complete blanket offered in the space marketplace. The silver-white blanket, about 2+" thick, last flew in space as part of Space Shuttle Atlantis on Mission STS-86 from Sept. 25 - Oct. 6, 1997, after nearly 11 days in earth orbit. STS-86, the nation's 87th shuttle flight, accomplished the 7th Shuttle-Mir docking and was the first joint U.S.-Russian spacewalk activity during a shuttle mission. The lightweight protective blanket, from Atlantis' payload bay area on this particular flight, made 170 orbits after logging more than 4.2 million statute miles in space! The lot includes NASA's original red blanket tag along with an official COA.
