Lot 27: FLOWN Skylab 4 Astronaut Knife

Lot 27: FLOWN Skylab 4 Astronaut Knife

Donated from the personal collection of Skylab 4 astronaut William R. Pogue, this flown, stainless steel knife was used for his meals in space during his mission aboard Skylab from November 16, 1973 to February 8, 1974.

By Skylab's era, gone were the food paste tubes and dried cubes of earlier days; these astronauts dined, therefore required proper eating utensils. Each astronaut was issued a set of personal silverware which they would use for the entire mission.

"PLT" (Pilot) emblem is engraved on the knife's weighted handle and the blade is serrated. The knife shows minor signs of wear, but is in excellent condition given its age.

A flown silverware set is sure to be a unique addition for the savvy, space collector. Just add fork and spoon! A Certificate of Authenticity from Pogue accompanies this piece.
