Lot 30: Astronaut Multi-Signed Kitty Hawk Anniversary Cover
Travel back in time and celebrate the anniversary of "first flight" with this multi-signed, decorated Kitty Hawk Anniversary Cover. Five signatures grace the front of this envelope, including Gemini, Apollo, and ASTP astronaut Lt. General Thomas P. Stafford; Skylab astronauts Owen K. Garriott and Colonel William R. Pogue; Apollo astronaut Colonel Stuart A. Roosa; and the former NASA Head of the Space Task Group, Robert R. Gilruth.
This first day cover from the Oklahoma Aviation and Space Hall of Fame and Museum Enshrinement Ceremony, revisits the roots of successful flight, and honors some of the pioneers of aviation and aerospace, seventy-seven years after Kitty Hawk's first powered flight.
Postmarked December 17, 1980, Oklahoma City, OK, the cache boasts a Will Rogers postage stamp, as well as, a photograph of the Wright Brother's plane at Kitty Hawk. Below the picture are the names of the honorees (listed above) for the First Annual Enshrinement Ceremony. "Kitty Hawk Day, December 17, 1980" is printed along the bottom.
