Lot 16: FLOWN Skylab 4 Jacket
From the personal collection of Skylab Astronaut William "Bill" Pogue, this jacket spent a total of 281 days in space. It was placed aboard the unmanned launch of Saturn INT-21, which carried the Skylab station, along with the crew's supplies, into space on May 14, 1973, six months prior to the Astronauts' arrival. Pogue wore the jacket in space aboard the Skylab station, during mission SL-4, which lasted from Nov. 16, 1973 through Feb. 8, 1974.
The brown jacket has "W. Pogue" and the Skylab 4 mission patch sewn on the left side, the NASA logo patch on the opposite side, and an American flag patch on the left arm. The part number, "SEB13100141-301" and serial number "1141" are marked on the jacket's inside tag.
Skylab was America's first experimental space station, designed to prove that humans could live and work in space. Three crews of Skylab Astronauts lived aboard the station, at three separate times, for a total of 171 days and 13 hours before the station was purposely dismantled upon re-entry into the earth's atmosphere in July of 1979.
A Certificate of Authenticity signed by Pogue is also included.
