Lot 21: Complete Skylab Astronaut Signed Cachet
The Skylab cachet is from the personal collection of Skylab 4 Astronaut William Pogue and signed by all nine Skylab Astronauts including Pogue and Astronauts Gerald Carr and Edward Gibson, Skylab 3 Astronauts Alan Bean, Owen Garriott, and Jack Lousma, and Skylab 2 Astronauts the late Charles "Pete" Conrad, Joseph Kerwin, and Paul Weitz.
The cachet boasts a 1974 NASA Skylab Space Exploration stamp and is postmarked from Houston, TX on May 14, 1974; one year after the unmanned Skylab 1 space station was launched into space. Skylab Astronauts from missions 2, 3, and 4 spent a combined total of 513 days in orbit, while they conducted thousands of science experiments and Earth observations. At that time, the Skylab missions were the longest-duration spaceflights in U.S. history.
The cachet is 3.5" x 6.5" in size and bears the Skylab space laboratory image on the front cover. It is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Pogue.
