On January 29, 2011, the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation celebrated the 40th anniversary of Apollo 14 with an intimate soirée at Kennedy Space Center (KSC)'s Apollo Saturn V Center (ASVC). The event honored crewmembers Edgar Mitchell and the late Alan Shepard and Stuart Roosa. Mitchell headlined the event alongside fellow Apollo astronauts Neil Armstrong, Alan Bean, Gene Cernan (Apollo 14 Backup Commander), Walt Cunningham, Fred Haise (Apollo 14 CapCom), Bruce McCandless (Apollo 14 CapCom), Rusty Schweickart, Dave Scott, Tom Stafford, Al Worden. Also in attendance were space shuttle astronauts Robert Cabana and Bob Springer.

Fifty guests got a chance to rub elbows with these space legends during a champagne social at the Radisson Resort at the Port, during which Laura Shepard-Churchley and Rosemary Roosa — daughters of crewmembers Shepard and Roosa — raised their glasses and led a toast honoring their fathers and Mitchell.

Guests also participated in a rare photo-opportunity with Mitchell in front of the actual Apollo 14 Command Module Kittyhawk, which is housed in the Apollo Treasures Gallery at the ASVC. Then, they enjoyed an elegant reception, followed by a sumptuous four-course meal. The highlight of the evening was the candid discussion led by the panel of Apollo astronauts as they gathered around Kittyhawk to relive the triumph of Apollo 14's lunar landing. After the program, guests placed their final bids in an exclusive auction of Apollo 14 artifacts before winding down with coffee and a lavish dessert spread.

The Apollo 14 40th Anniversary Soirée was a resounding success, raising more than $60,000 for the Foundation and honoring a very special mission!
