Lot 1: Kennedy Space Center VAB & LCC Tour with Robert Crippen

Join STS-1 Pilot Robert Crippen for a personal tour of Kennedy Space Center (KSC) when you bid and win this Astronaut Experience!

With Crippen as your guide, you will make your way around NASA's launch headquarters — an area that features towering launch pads, history-making technology, and vast stretches of Florida's wildlife preserve. The massive Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) — where Apollo's Saturn V rockets and the space shuttles were assembled for launch — will be a sight you'll never forget. With a true space pioneer at your side, you'll trace the paths of these massive vehicles as they made their way down the stone crawlerway from the VAB to the launch pad.

Additionally, you'll tour the Launch Control Center (LCC), where NASA directors and engineers supervised all of the 152 launches including the space shuttle and Apollo Moon missions. Only recently opened for the first time in four decades, you'll be one of the first to get an up-close-and-personal view! Beneath the famous angled windows of the firing room, countless NASA technicians sat at consoles, pouring over pre-launch checklists in preparation to send brave men and women into space.

After your tour, you'll join Crippen for dinner at a local venue. The tour also includes full access to the main campus of the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex and the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame.

Crippen launched in Columbia more than 30 years ago on the space shuttle program's first orbital mission. His stories and memories of his time spent on four space shuttle missions and as Center Director at KSC will keep you fascinated throughout the day.
