Created By The Mercury 7 Astronauts
This set of Skylab covers is from the personal collection of astronaut Paul Weitz. Each cover bears his signature and additional inscription "From my collection" and "PLT SL-2."
The first cover depicts the unmanned launch of the Skylab space station and is postmarked May 14, 1973 - the date of that launch. The second cover depicts the space station in orbit and profiles of the first Skylab crew - Commander Pete Conrad, Pilot Weitz, and Science Pilot Joseph Kerwin. This cover is dated May 25, 1973 — the date of the Skylab 2 launch. Both covers include printed filler cards.
The two covers and a Skylab 2 mission patch, also from Weitz's collection, have been matted and framed using archival methods.
