Created By The Mercury 7 Astronauts
This rare Skylab 2 crew signed postal cover commemorates the recovery of astronauts Charles "Pete" Conrad, Jr., Paul J. Weitz, and Joseph P. Kerwin by the U.S.S. Ticonderoga. The three astronauts were officially known as the Skylab 2 crew as the Skylab 1 launch was just the space station itself. Conrad, Weitz and Kerwin were actually the first crew to man the Skylab.
This cover has been postmarked June 22, 1973, the date of the Skylab 2 splashdown and recovery.
