Description

This grid map, depicting the Descartes region of the Moon, has been signed by Apollo 16 Lunar Module Pilot Charlie Duke, who has also added "Apollo 16 LMP" below his name. This map, labeled "DESCARTES EVA-I, II, III; 1 of 3 WALKING TRAVERSES" and dated April 1972, was produced for the Apollo 16 mission and details the lunar landing site, survey points, and the intended path of the lunar EVAs. Maps such as these were used by the astronauts during training; maps that were used during the actual flight were coated.

The 8" x 10" map, alongside a signed photo of Duke at Plum Crater, has been mounted and framed using archival methods. The framed presentation also includes an Apollo 16 mission patch, produced in a limited quantity by the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation for the mission's 40th anniversary. A careful examination will show the initials "ASF" sewn into the patch.

A certificate of authenticity signed by Astronaut Scholarship Foundation Executive Director Tammy Knowles accompanies this lot.

ASF reserves the right to disqualify the high bidder, to reject the high bid and to accept a bid from a lower bidder for any reason within their discretion, which shall be exercised in good faith.
