Created By The Mercury 7 Astronauts
This vintage STS-6 mission patch and cue card, labeled "Teleprinter Activation Procedure," flew on the maiden flight of Space Shuttle Challenger on April 4-9, 1983. Both pieces are attached to a collage of photos from the same mission, signed by the four crew members: Commander Paul Weitz, Pilot Karol "Bo" Bobko and Mission Specialists Story Musgrave and Donald Peterson.
Astronaut Mary Cleave served as a member of the STS-6 support crew and was given the patch by the crew upon their return to Earth. It was a NASA tradition that crews present key ground support members with a flown item from their mission.
There are some condition issues (see photos). This presentation has been mounted and framed using archival methods.
