Description

This beta cloth patch, bearing the insignia of the Skylab 2 mission, has been signed by Skylab 2 Pilot Paul Weitz, who donated the item to the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation.

The Skylab 2 insignia is printed on a 9" x 9" square of material made of fireproof beta cloth-glass fibers coated with Teflon, the same fabric used on the outer layer of spacesuits. The Skylab space station first launched unmanned on May 14, 1973 and was followed two months later by the Skylab 2 crew on May 25, 1973. Commander Charles Conrad, Weitz, and Science Pilot Joe Kerwin lived aboard the space station for a total of 28 days until June 22, 1973.
