This sterling silver medallion is from the personal collection of space shuttle astronaut Don Williams.
Robbins medallions were only made available to astronauts as commemorative pieces. This medallion comes in its original plastic case, labeled 22 on the front and 109 on the back. The medallion features the mission insignia of STS-61A: Challenger with its payload bay doors open, revealing the SPACELAB module, alongside the U.S. and German flags and the surnames of crewmembers Buchli, Hartsfield, Nagel, Bluford, Dunbar, Messerschmid, Ockels, and Furrer. The reverse also features crew surnames along with the engraved launch and landing dates "April 12, 1985" and "November 6, 1985 / RW 17, Edwards AFB, CA." The medallion measures approx. 1.5 x 1.5".
A certificate of authenticity signed by Astronaut Scholarship Foundation Executive Director Tammy Knowles accompanies this lot.
