Description

This checklist page, from the personal collection of the late Bill Pogue, flew aboard the Skylab space station. The page is from a cuff checklist used in the M509 Maneuvering Unit testing. This page is labeled "M509 Ground Rules" and includes instructions; Pogue has added a handwritten note: "from the checklist used on the Skylab for M509." The opposite side features a cartoon and is labeled "SL-4, M509, RUN 1, POGUE." Pogue has additionally inscribed "Completed 20 Dec 1973" on this side and signed his initials.

Skylab's experiment M509 included both a backpack maneuvering unit called the Automatically Stabilized Maneuvering Unit (ASMU) and an improved hand-held maneuvering unit. Both units were propelled by high-pressure nitrogen drawn from a tank on the astronaut's back. These units were tested inside Skylab.

The approx. 3.75" x 4.25" page has been mounted and framed using archival methods alongside a photo of Jerry Carr testing the unit in the Skylab workshop. The checklist booklet can be seen on his wrist. The floating frame set up of this piece allows both sides of the checklist to be seen. This lot also includes the envelope that Pogue donated the page in, on which he has written a note about the item.

This lot is also accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by Astronaut Scholarship Foundation Executive Director Tammy Knowles.
