Lot 32: 30th Anniversary of TFNG Autographed Posterboard

This mounted photographic presentation, from the personal collection of space shuttle astronaut Dan Brandenstein commemorates the 30th anniversary of the selection of the 1978 Astronaut Class. Members of the astronaut candidate class of '78, which numbered thirty-five, dubbed themselves the "Thirty-Five New Guys," or "TFNG."

The 21 x 30" poster has been signed by Brandenstein and fellow astronaut classmates: Brewster Shaw, Anna Fisher, T.J. Hart, Mike Mullane, Fred Gregory, Jeffrey Hoffman, Ox van Hoften, Steve Nagel, Dick Covey, J.O. Creighton, Loren Shriver, "Pinky" Nelson, Rick Hauck and Kathryn Sullivan.

The poster features an inspiring photo of astronaut Bruce McCandless during the first ever un- tethered spacewalk.

Incorporated into the border of the poster are the dates 1978 (on the top left) and 2008 (on the bottom right) and the TFNG group's emblem (on the bottom left). The emblem, designed by the late Judith Resnick, shows a shuttle, in flight, with thirty-five astronauts engaged in various activities in and around it. Resnick incorporated the TFNG initials in her design, along with the motto, "We Deliver."

The posterboard is slightly damaged; there are multiple light blemishes as well as a significant dent, which can be found an inch or so above Covey's signature. The poster is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Brandenstein.
