Lot 41: STS-120 FLOWN Astronaut EVA Water
This astronaut water, from astronaut Scott Parazynski's personal collection, was extracted from his In-Suit Drink Bag (IDB) which flew in space aboard STS-120 from October 23 - November 7, 2007. Parazynski used this water during an extravehicular activity (EVA) or "spacewalk."
The IDB was mounted inside Parazynski's Extravehicular Mobility Unit during his fourth spacewalk of the mission, an unplanned solar array repair that took place on November 3, 2007 and lasted for 7 hours and 19 minutes. To accomplish the repair, Parazynski was positioned by a 90-foot robotic boom, farther from the safety of the orbiter's airlock than any orbiting astronaut had ever ventured. The IDB held up to 32 ounces of water and allowed Parazynski to stay hydrated during what NASA considered to be one of the most challenging EVAs ever performed by an astronaut.
The surplus water, not used by Parazynski during his EVA, was drained from the IDB into this elegant glass vial. The IDB water has been paired with an 8 x 10" autographed photo of Parazynski performing the EVA. Together, they have been mounted and framed using archival methods alongside a plaque stating:

The STS-120 IDB water remained in Parazynski's possession until he donated it exclusively to the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation. The items are accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Parazynski.
