Lot 6: Mountain Climbing with Scott Parazynski

Attention adventurers! Set a course for new heights and prepare for some awe-inspiring natural beauty as you join space shuttle astronaut and Mount Everest conqueror Scott Parazynski for a hiking expedition up Challenger Point (named in memory of the seven astronauts who died when the Shuttle Challenger disintegrated shortly after liftoff).

Your excursion begins when you and up to three guests go on an acclimatizing practice hike on a Denver-area mountain, a run-through before the big day. Later, your group will join Parazynski for a hearty meal as you go over the "launch sequences" of your mission: to scale one of Colorado's "fourteeners" during a leisurely hike. Parazynski will lay out goals and objectives that are personally tailored to your experience level, skill set and physical ability, maximizing your potential for success.

The next morning, you'll get a mountaineer's start on the day by rising before dawn. You'll breathe in the brisk mountain air and see the Sun coming up over the Sangre de Cristo range as Parazynski leads your team on an exhilarating trek. After you take in the awe-inspiring views and feel the satisfaction of a mission accomplished, you'll descend back to the mountain's base and bid your intrepid leader farewell.

Parazynski was selected to join NASA's Astronaut Corps in 1992, and flew five space shuttle missions, spending over 8 weeks in space. On STS-120, he performed four spacewalks, including one that is regarded by many as one of the most challenging and dangerous EVAs ever performed. Since leaving the Astronaut Corps, Parazynski has become Chief Technology Officer and Chief Medical Officer at The Methodist Hospital Research Institute in Houston, Texas. He is also a life-long SCUBA diver and accomplished mountaineer. In 2009, he became the first astronaut to scale Mt. Everest.

All participants must be 12 years or older. Transportation to and from the experience are not included. The actual date of the experience will be determined by the above astronaut's schedule. An ASF representative will escort the above astronaut throughout the visit. ASF reserves the right to disqualify the high bidder, to reject the high bid, and to accept a bid from a lower bidder, for any reason within their discretion, which shall be exercised in good faith. The winning bidder of this experience may be required to submit proof of identity and be subject to a background check. Hold harmless agreement required.
