Lot 7: Space Camp with Shuttle Astronaut Jan Davis
What better way to fuel a young person's interest in science, technology and space travel than an immersive Space Camp or Aviation Challenge package, ASTRONAUT INCLUDED!
This experience includes a gift certificate to any five-day Space Camp or Aviation Challenge program at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama, as well as a personalized tour of the facility led by Space Shuttle astronaut Jan Davis (STS-60, STS-47, STS-85). In addition, your camper will be the envy of the camp when Davis shows up on the final day to deliver a keynote address at the graduation ceremony on their behalf!
Space Camp includes two 1-hour simulated shuttle missions. Campers will also experience what it's like to walk on the moon in a 1/6th gravity chair and take a tumble-spin on the multi-axis trainer, just like the Mercury astronauts once did. The Aviation Challenge includes hands-on flight simulator training. Campers also get to practice their wilderness and water survival skills, and participate in realistic combat scenarios. Both options offer lessons in the physics of flight and scientific experimentation!
Your camper's Space Camp or Aviation Challenge experience culminates with a graduation ceremony, which parents and other family members are welcome to attend.
The winner of this lot must redeem their Space Camp/Aviation Challenge gift certificate by Oct. 31, 2013.
A veteran of three spaceflights, Jan Davis has logged over 673 hours in space. She has been awarded the NASA Outstanding Leadership Medal, the NASA Exceptional Service Medal and the NASA Space Flight Medal, and she holds a doctoral degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Alabama. In other words, she's the perfect role model for your young space enthusiast!
