Richard Garriott is the son of Skylab astronaut Owen Garriott, Richard is the first second generation American astronaut. He flew privately to the ISS in October 2008, aboard Soyuz TMA 14 and returned to earth 12 days later aboard Soyuz TMA 12. Richard recently served as the President of The Explorers Club, visited both Poles and dove 10,925 meters to the deepest point in the Mariana Trench. The Explorers Club has about 4000 members around the globe including many astronauts. Richard is also a founding father of the video gaming industry. His Ultima series of games brought the term “avatar” into the common lexicon, as well as pioneering online games, a genre that now dominates the gaming industry.
