ASF would like to personally thank Pat and Sharon Devereaux for hosting and organizing a Meet & Greet reception to introduce the foundation to the Chicago area. A special thanks is in order for Chuck Gitles of American Chartered Bank for sponsoring the event and O’Hare Offices for the beautiful event venue. The evening featured an inspiring presentation by Captain James Lovell as he recounted his time aboard Apollo 13 and emphasized the importance of STEM. Guests were introduced to 2015 University of Chicago Astronaut Scholarship recipient Olivia Stovicek, who shared the impact of her scholarship and the ASF network of support. The combination of wonderful guests, terrific food, and great conversation resulted in many new friends and supporters of ASF’s mission. Thank you Deb Burdsall for capturing the event in photographs (c) 2016 Mommarazzi Images.
As part of the ongoing effort to raise awareness of ASF’s mission, we are delighted to share our mission through Meet & Greets throughout the nation. These events are hosted by ASF’s family of directors, trustees and supporters who graciously open their homes or business to introduce ASF to their local communities. Through the personal stories and life experiences of Astronauts and Astronaut Scholars, guests gain a better understanding of the impact the Astronaut Scholarship program has, not only on the recipients, but also on the nation’s workforce in fields such as aerospace, energy, and defense and homeland security.
